Description

"Chaffeh" (شفة) or “lip” refers to the shape of the edge of this traditional Levantine coffee cup. It is made by hand from local clay by one of the last potters in the Chouf region of Lebanon and then glazed in many vibrant colours and textures by an artist in Beirut, as part of a social enterprise connecting ceramic artisans and reviving Lebanon's pottery tradition.

Traditionally, Turkish or "Arabic" coffee is served in these cups but we use them for espresso too. 

This XL chaffeh is perfectly suitable for serving caffè latte or tea.

Available in six bright colours.

Note: This is a handmade product. Every item is unique. Variations in size, shape and colour are to be expected. Preferably hand wash.

Selsal Collective Studio is a Lebanese social enterprise whose goal is to empower ceramists, mainly by promoting the use of locally sourced clay.

Our Selsal potteries are handmade in the Chouf region of Lebanon — once a thriving regional hub for pottery — with autochthonous clay. Selsal Collective Studio helps local potters to sell and market their products both nationally and internationally, and in doing so, contributes to keeping this ancient business alive in the region.

On the other hand, Selsal Collective Studio actively works on training future potter generations and democratising ceramics by offering fairly-priced workshops on hand-building techniques with local clay — which is more affordable than imported alternatives. Despite occasional impurities, they achieve a 95% success rate with their pieces.
