Olive Wood Chess Board

This foldable olive wood chess board with olive wood game pieces is handmade in Bethlehem. The inside of the box can be used for backgammon games. 

Olive wood — along with olive oil — has been one of the most important Palestinian resources since time immemorial and has also been representing a big share of Palestinian exports. 

For many artisans in Palestine – especially in the Bethlehem area – crafting objects from olive wood has been a main source of income, carving the wood by hand with only basic tools but utmost dedication and skill.
