Description

Copper and brass were broadly used in Ancient Egypt, from building statues to crafting wonderfully detailed pots and jewellery. Today, the number of copper and brass smiths is in decline due to the high price of the material and a lack in demand, but many mostly decorative objects such as lamps are still being produced today. Many brass smiths have also moved on to produce minaret tops and other ornaments for mosques.

The key of life is an Egyptian hieroglyph ("ankh") representing the word "life" and by extent in itself a symbol for life. Used in art and object, usually depicted in the hands of Egyptian deities, it represents the power to sustain life and to revive human souls in the afterlife.

One size.

Made in Cairo by brass smith Ishak Fahim Rubel.
