Description
ِArak Brun is a premium Lebanese Arak produced by Domaine des Tourelles in Chtaura, Bekaa Valley — one of the oldest commercial wineries in Lebanon, founded by the Brun family.
Domaine des Tourelles prides itself in “bringing back” anise to Lebanon, as it mostly used to be brought in from Syria — despited the important output of the Lebanese arak production. Today, the winery cultivates large acres, mostly in the Deir el-Ahmar and Tal Dnoub regions of the Bekaa, making it both the biggest producer and consumer of anise in Lebanon — securing most of its production needs from its own crops.
The Arak Brun distillery runs a series of centuries-old copper alembics with relatively small pots, which allow them to obtain a true homemade quality — for the smaller the pot, the better the arak. These alembics run 18 hours per day and 320 days per year to deliver the large volumes needed by the market.
As per tradition in arak making, after triple-distillation, Arak Brun is then aged in clay jars, which are produced by a family-run pottery business in Beit Chabeb, nearby Beirut.
The classic Lebanese way to serve Arak is to pour neat, and to then add ice and water.
