Fayoum Cup

Rawya is a potter based in the village of Tunis in Egypt’s Fayoum Oasis. Here, all kinds of pottery are handmade with clay from Upper Egypt (mostly the Aswan region) and then painted by hand. The motifs and colours are inspired by the lush surrounding oasis with its massive lake, palm trees, farms and rich fauna. 

Rawya was the first woman in her area to have her own workshop and become a business owner, which wasn’t an easy endeavor in a male-dominated domain and rural society. Her family of six now all work with her. 

Rawya’s potteries are brought to Shababik in cooperation with Fair Trade Egypt who has been working with her since 2001, helping her he was able to sell her products in good manner through strategic marketing.
